If you are wondering what you may want to contribute or create, a good rule of thumb is to identify what it is that puts you in a space where you forget who you are. It is something that really gets you out of the way. It is something that is not about you. It is something that does not represent a contribution you are making because you are needing or wanting to heal something inside of you temporarily. It is something that you have had a passion for or something that you have known about for a very long time. It is something that comes easily for you. It is something that you came to do, but it was not yet time until now.I experience something like this every time I go out with my camera. I call it my Billy Elliot moment. There's a clear point when it happens. It's as though a switch is flicked and I go into overdrive. Or perhaps automatic. It's especially apparent when I photograph an event like Poppy Day or the Whit Walks. It's just me and my camera. My whole focus and concentration goes into what I'm doing. I've lost count of the number of times I've suddenly realised a bus is about to run me over!
It's hard to articulate what it feels like. It's exhilaration, joy, fulfillment. It is a channel to a completely different place. It takes me to my source, to that place where all the ducks are in a row, where life is in alignment.
What do you do that puts all your ducks in a row?
Postscript: The Runaway Bride was on the television a few hours after I wrote this post. I didn't see all of it. Just the tail end. The duck reference wasn't lost on me!

(stepping closer
and making a "V"
with her fingers)
You know, I was just thinking about
that geese thing. I think the "V" was
half of a "W". A "W" for...
MAGGIE
What are you talking about?
PEGGY
Wedding. Wedding.
(holding Maggie's face)
You just have to get the rest of your
ducks in a row.
MAGGIE
Thank you. You still think that he
was....
PEGGY
Quick. Very quick.
