This week my copy of Style Statement arrived. A recommendation from Hope Wallace and co-written by Danielle LaPorte, it's my kind of book. It's a book of a journey with a destination to reach at the end.
The concept of the book is that a combination of two words describes who you are. It's another step in the quest to discover the authentic self. Those two words define who you really are and then act as:
a compass for making more powerful choices, a guide for designing a life that reflects your whole being. An anchor, a symbol, a mantra. A declaration, an affirmation, a reminder. You, fully expressed. It's back to the ducks, and getting them in line. A holistic view, the mind, body and spirit lined up.
(And, talking of ducks ... Also in my book package this week was a copy of Even More Notes from the Universe by Mike Dooley. I liked what he said about ducks in the Introduction:
Inspiration to write, or to do anything else, usually comes after, not before, we physically begin the journey - no matter what kind of journey it is. Don't wait for your ducks to line up first because they never do, not until you start. Even a momma duck knows this. Her ducklings are hither and yon until she starts her journey, at which point they scramble to catch up and fall in line. The same is true of our ducks.I like little bits of duck synchronicity!).
More and more, I believe that to have a purposeful life there has to be balance. Defining your Style Statement is about bringing your being into balance. The two words work on the 80:20 principle. The first word is your fundamental nature and the second represents what makes you unique. It's a simple concept but a powerful tool to communicate your whole self.
